I’m sitting in a quiet room. The first hour of the morning just passed, in the first day of October, I’m listening to the desperate sounds of a small fly struggling for her life just a few steps away from me.
I’m talking about a small fly consuming her last breath in the desperate attempt to fly outside thru the window glass. She keeps trying. It doesn’t work.
This crazy effort doesn’t give her a chance of survival. Ironically, this fight is part of the race between life and death. It’s impossible for the fly to manage to break the glass, no matter how hard she tries. Still.. this little insect is putting her life at stake thru hard work and assiduity.
This fly is doomed. She will die here on the windowsill.
On the other side of the room, ten feet away, the door is open. Ten seconds of flying and this little being would be able to escape in the world she’s looking for. With a small part of the stamina she is using now, she could be released from the trap she created for herself. It would be that easy !
Why doesn’t this little insect try another solution, something totally different ? How did she end up so caught in the idea that only this road would give her success and no other? What’s the logic in trying and trying and trying something that eventually would bring her death?
There is no doubt that this solution might not be the right one. Unfortunately the basics of this idea are going to kill her.
Trying so hard doesn’t have to be the solution in getting something better. It might only offer you a false promise. Actually, sometimes, that is the biggest problem.
If you put your life at stake for a rescue, like the fly did, you might kill all your chances of success.
